What is ReSkate? The unofficial open-source mod platform for EA skate. explained: offline play, self-hosted servers, and mods in one guide.
What Is ReSkate? The Unofficial Mod Platform for EA skate.
ReSkate is a third-party, open-source mod platform for EA's free-to-play skateboarding game skate. It is not a standalone game, and it is not made or endorsed by EA. Built by the volunteer team Dingo-Shenanigans, it ships as three pieces — a launcher, an in-game runtime, and a dedicated server — that together let PC players play offline, host their own lobbies and servers, and install community mods. Everything below is accurate as of v1.1.3, 2026-10-07.
ReSkate in 30 Seconds
| ReSkate is... | ReSkate is not... |
|---|---|
| A fan-made mod platform (GPL-3.0 open source) for EA skate. | The game itself — you still need your own Steam copy of skate. |
| Three programs: a launcher, a runtime, and a dedicated server | An EA product — it is "not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Full Circle" |
| A way to play offline, host lobbies and servers, and install mods | A replacement for the live game, a shortcut to paid cosmetics, or a place for leaks |
| Free, with public source code anyone can audit | A download that includes the game — it never ships skate. content |
That right-hand column matters. The project's own in-game news feed states ReSkate is "NOT a replacement for the live game, a way to get paid cosmetics, or a place for leaks."

How ReSkate Relates to EA skate.
skate. (the EA reboot fans call Skate 4 — see our name explainer) is a free-to-play, online-only skateboarding game. ReSkate sits next to it, not inside it: it takes your own Steam-installed copy — "You need your own copy of skate. on Steam" — and runs it without talking to EA's servers. Because no EA server is in the loop, the game can run fully offline; because the game files stay byte-identical to the pinned build, mods and servers have a stable target. If EA ships a newer Steam build after this page's as-of date, check the version history tracker for the current number (ReSkate Releases page). New to installing? Start with the official download and install walkthrough.
The Three Pieces: Launcher, Runtime, and Server
The project README describes the whole thing in one line — "play it offline, host your own lobbies and dedicated servers, and mod it" — and each clause maps to one program:
| Piece | File | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Launcher | ReSkateLauncher.exe | Self-updates, verifies your game files against the pinned build, injects the runtime, hosts the MODS browser, and launches the game with PLAY |
| Runtime | ReSkate.dll | Loads into the pinned game build and powers everything in-game: the menu (Insert), the command console (~), multiplayer chat (T), mods, the Park Editor, and the Trainer |
| Dedicated server | ReSkateServer.exe (Windows) or the native Linux build (since v1.0.8) | Runs a headless lobby without needing the game or Steam installed; players find it in the server browser |
Two practical notes. First, the launcher only trusts official GitHub Releases — never a mirror. Second, player and server must run the same ReSkate version, or they cannot play together. Server hosts should read the dedicated server setup guide for the five-step minimum.
Three Things ReSkate Unlocks
Play offline
The base game is online-only, so this is the headline feature for many players: ReSkate runs skate. with no connection to EA servers, and your character, unlocks, and progress live on your own machine. One catch: if Steam is not open and logged in when you press PLAY, you enter as "Unknown Player" with no multiplayer. Full mechanics and limits are on the offline mode page.
Host lobbies and servers
Multiplayer comes in two flavors. Steam lobbies hold up to 32 players and can be public, invite-code, or password protected; dedicated servers, which community sources report can host up to 249 players each, appear in a server browser and relay through Steam so players open no ports. Both support proximity voice, text and emote chat, parties, throwdown formats (Jam, Spot Battle, and S.K.A.T.E.), and co-op challenges. See the multiplayer guide for joining and hosting.
Install mods
Mods come from the Thunderstore community (browse the ReSkate Thunderstore community) — 216 mods and 326,000+ downloads as of 2026-10-05 (launch coverage from skatemods) — covering ported maps (including the full Skate 3 map), music playlists, cosmetics, and tools. Install from the launcher's MODS page or by dragging a .zip into the window, then toggle mods in-game under Insert → MODS, usually without restarting (community install guide). Our mod install tutorial covers the full chain, and the best-mods shortlist picks what is worth your disk space.
Script mods run real code on your PC. The README says it plainly — "Only install mods you trust" — and community hubs list mods without auditing every one, so treat a new mod like any new piece of software.
Open Source, Unofficial, and the Ground Rules
ReSkate is built in the open by Dingo-Shenanigans, a volunteer open-source team, and the code is published under GPL-3.0 for anyone to read. Two details people miss: the license covers ReSkate's own code only — third-party libraries, fonts, emoji, game images, and skate. content itself still belong to their owners (the game belongs to EA) — and parts of the code and reversing notes are disclosed as AI-assisted. Curious about the background? See who makes ReSkate.
re-skate.wiki is an independent, unofficial fan site with no connection to EA, Full Circle, Dingo-Shenanigans, or Thunderstore — the same "unofficial" label that applies to ReSkate itself.
The ground rules follow from that status. skate. itself is free, so bring your own Steam account and a legitimate install — ReSkate never ships game files, and this site never helps with piracy. On bans: EA has made no public statement about ReSkate as of 2026-10-07; the project's own FAQ says players cannot be banned (a project-side claim, not EA's position), while ReSkate runs its own global ban list for its lobbies and most servers since v1.1.1. The full evidence, including the antivirus false-positive walkthrough, is on the safety and trust guide.
A Fast-Moving Project: Read the Version Stamp
ReSkate went open source on 2026-10-02 alongside v1.0.0, then shipped 14 tags in five days through v1.1.3 (2026-10-06) — native Linux servers, an in-game Trainer, and a global ban list among them. Anything version-shaped on this site therefore carries an "as of" stamp with a date: this page is accurate as of v1.1.3, 2026-10-07. Before troubleshooting anything, confirm your version against the version history tracker — version mismatches are the first thing to rule out.
Where to Go Next
If ReSkate sounds like your thing: download and install it, then skim the safety guide before your antivirus asks questions. If you only want one feature, go straight to offline mode or mods. And if someone sent you here, send them the community hub next.

FAQ
Is ReSkate a separate skateboarding game I download instead of skate.?
No. ReSkate is a mod platform that needs EA skate. installed from Steam. Without the base game files, there is nothing for the launcher and runtime to work with.
Is ReSkate made by EA?
No. It is a third-party fan project by the volunteer team Dingo-Shenanigans, and its README states it is "not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Full Circle."
Does ReSkate cost anything, and do I need to own skate.?
ReSkate itself is free and open source. skate. is free-to-play, but you need your own Steam account and your own installed copy — roughly 14 GB if you let the launcher download the game. Neither ReSkate nor this site provides game files.
Can I get banned for using ReSkate?
EA has made no public statement about ReSkate as of 2026-10-07, so there is no official position to quote. The project's own FAQ claims players cannot be banned, which is the project's claim rather than EA's. Read the safety and trust guide for the full sourced picture before you decide.
Which platforms does ReSkate run on?
ReSkate is a PC mod platform: the player launcher targets Windows (10/11, 64-bit), dedicated servers run on Windows or native Linux (since v1.0.8), and Steam Deck and desktop Linux work through Proton with known issues. For consoles, handhelds, and Deck setup details, see the platform status page.
